I shared a roll with 3 other people, this is my favourite of mine. I’d never used film or a tripod before. I’ve never been a fan of 6x6 square Hasselblad format though, used 6x7 Mamiya after.

What are your favourite cameras and why?

Family photo of artist with sister inside tree from the past...

Family photo of artist with sister inside tree from the past overlayed with photo of location now.

I don’t think shooting head on like this really works as well as shooting at angles.

I tend to shoot very square and head on, make things flat since photography is a 2D medium pretending to be a 3D medium whilst actually being more 2.5D. Perhaps I should experiment with shooting in different ways and from different angles to be more interesting?

From a series looking at landscapes through water in a bottle, a...

From a series looking at landscapes through water in a bottle, a lens if you will.

The sky wasn’t purple at the time and the grass was a very different green in reality. This is a straight scan as the lab I sent it to did.

What are people’s thoughts on post production, I could have edited in Lightroom and got it to look more natural and looking as it was seen at the time, but I left it as it was developed and scanned?

Family photo of the artist aged 8, overlayed with photo of grass...

Family photo of the artist aged 8, overlayed with photo of grass from same location now.

This seemingly simple and boring landscape actually shows all I want to say about it. Water has had its path carefully guided by man for farm animals etc, The fence has been buckled and damaged by the water, nature. The crops in the top corner, organised by man. The tree being grown, protected by wood. The telegraph pole, communication. A seemingly very nature centred photo, is actually completely constructed by man. And yet it is completely nature.

Maybe we should stop looking at things as being nature or man made, is man not part of nature?

From my most fun to make series.
Another shot from before I knew about f-stops, film, developing, thinking about what I photo, composition, focus, editing, Lightroom etc etc. I just used a point and shoot compact camera and shot stuff, quite interesting to look back at what photographed, what has remained the same and what has changed.
